Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night! This is kind of a Christmas lullaby for you and yours. I held back on the instrumentation, only 7 or 8 instrumental tracks ;) Enjoy!!
Addendum—It’s not an original, but an old lullaby (I guess?). I’ve heard a few artists perform it (Sufjan!) but my favorite version—the one I’m covering here—belongs to Bifrost Arts. Check it out here.
Ok so Passion Pit just released their new album, Gossamer, on Tuesday. There’s an incredible cover story about the lead, Michael Angelakos on Pitchfork about his struggles with mental health. I feel like having read a little bit about his story, I get this song so much more. If you’ve ever seen or heard any of his acoustic sets, you would know he’s absolutely amazing even without all the electronic beats and the falsetto. So I wanted to strip this song down to its bare elements. I can’t wait until he releases an acoustic album. Everyone will be blown away.
Ok I’m coming to grips with the fact that they can’t all be winners, but just getting into the practice of writing original songs is what I need.
Been meaning to do an Of Monsters and Men cover for a while now, the problem is that they have such lush instrumentation and harmonies that it’s hard to find a good one to strip down to one voice and one acoustic guitar. But after putting it off for long enough, I decided this would be the one. You can’t see it, but I threw in the tambourine on my foot for good measure. It’s a little buzz-y in the beginning, but that’s because my fingers were wimping out on me.
..and wrote an original song. With lyrics. It’s about time.
